1. How close is the storage facility to the sea – sea spray causes rusting and isn’t ideal for storing electrical goods
2. How close is the storage facility to the Hutt river - flooding has affected storage facilities
3. Is the storage facility located in the mist belt in Newlands and Tawa – high incidence of mist causes rusting and isn’t ideal for storing electrical goods like computers, especially in garage style storage facilities
4. How close is the storage facility to Wellington’s earthquake fault line and the associated tsunami risk – many storage facilities are located on or near the fault line

Can your provider answer YES to all these questions? 

 Security

1. Is each unit individually alarmed?
2. Is the Storage facility monitored 24/7 by an external monitoring company?
3. Does it have digitally recorded camera surveillance (CCTV)?
4. Is there remote afterhours access to the security system or surveillance system by the owners?
5. Is the storage facility surrounded by an electric fence?
6. Are the storage units located inside a building or are they a drive up garage style facility?

State of the art Fire Protection System

1. Does the storage facility have analogue addressable smoke detectors (so any fire can be pinpointed within seconds) or does it rely on heat sensors or does it have any fire protection system?

Dryness

1. Do they offer a dryness guarantee and will they give you that in writing?
2. What happens if the roof leaks and your goods are damaged? Do they repair your goods instead of making you claim on your insurance?

Access

1. Can you access your goods 365 days per year at your leisure?

Climate and weather control

1. Does the facility have positive pressure temperature controlled ventilation, forcing air into the facility if the temperature falls below 5 degrees celcius and above 25 degrees celcius and Colt ventilators – (not just the simple wind driven roof cowl) providing the ideal storage enviroment for your goods?
2. Does the storage facility have pink batts in the roof  to help control temperature fluctuations in the storage facility? We have 4000m2 of pink batts!
3. Are the storage units situated inside a building allowing you to access your goods without being affected by the weather or rain getting into your storage unit

Covered Loading Bay

1. Is there a covered loading bay, so that you can move your goods regardless of the weather and they will stay dry and undamaged? Storing damp goods can lead to mildew and you wouldn't want that!
2. Are there truck loading ramps, which make for quick and easy offloading and loading saving your back if you are moving your goods yourself or your money if you are paying professional movers by the hour?
3. Is there a large yard and ample parking to make it easy to manoeuvre and park your truck, car or trailer for unloading, loading and accessing your goods?

Rodent control

1. Do they provide regular perimeter rodent control?
2. Do they provide a mouse bait station in every storage unit providing additional protection for your goods and giving you peace of mind?

Cleanliness

1. Do they sweep, insect spray and disinfect your storage unit before you move in?
2. Are the floors painted and spotlessly clean and smooth which means you can move your goods without damaging and dirtying them?
